Full skirt
A skirt like this is an argument about weight. Too few layers and it hangs like a curtain; too many and she carries eight kilos through dinner.
We settled on six, each one cut a little shorter than the one beneath so the hem reads as one soft edge rather than six hard ones. The bodice is deliberately plain and deliberately structured: it does the work so the skirt can be frivolous.
The waist seam is bound in the same crepe and finished by hand, because it is the one seam that takes the whole weight.
